Netflix has confirmed that “The Witcher” will continue with both a fourth and fifth season, set to conclude the popular series. The upcoming seasons are highly anticipated, especially following the exit of original star Henry Cavill, who portrayed monster hunter Geralt of Rivia for the first three seasons. Cavill’s role will now be taken over by Liam Hemsworth, who made his debut as Geralt in season four.
The fantasy drama, which premiered in 2019 and is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s beloved series of books, follows Geralt as he navigates a medieval-inspired world battling supernatural creatures. The show’s official X account announced in April 2024 that it had been renewed for two more seasons, and these final chapters are set to adapt the last three books in Sapkowski’s series: “Baptism of Fire,” “The Tower of the Swallow,” and “Lady of the Lake.”
Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich expressed excitement about bringing the series to a satisfying conclusion, emphasizing the emotional journeys of the characters. She stated that the story will present tests and challenges for the characters, pushing them to their limits. As fans eagerly await the fourth season, which is scheduled to premiere in October 2025, it’s clear that the narrative will develop complex tensions between Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri.
Filming for both the fourth and fifth seasons has taken place back-to-back, which has allowed the creators to maintain continuity while building up to the grand finale. The expected release date for the fifth season is projected for the fall of 2026.
In addition to Hemsworth, returning cast members include Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, Freya Allan as Ciri, along with other familiar faces such as Eamon Farren and Joey Batey. New characters are also anticipated, including Laurence Fishburne, who recently joined the cast.
