Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, known as the “Sleeping Prince,” has sadly passed away at the age of 36 after spending two decades in a coma following a severe car accident in London. His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, shared the news on social media, expressing deep sorrow and love for his son.
Prince Al Waleed suffered life-threatening injuries in the accident in 2005 when he was only 15 years old, resulting in significant brain trauma and internal bleeding. Despite being given immediate medical care, he remained unresponsive for the entirety of his life after the incident.
In a hopeful moment in 2020, a video surfaced showing Al Waleed appearing to move his hand in response to a woman addressing him at his hospital bedside. This sparked a brief wave of optimism regarding his condition; however, no further significant progress was reported in the years that followed.
Funeral prayers for the late prince are scheduled for Sunday at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh, with separate ceremonies for women at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital. The family will observe three days of mourning until Tuesday in honor of his memory.
This tragic story highlights the enduring hope of families facing such heartbreaking situations, as Prince Khaled maintained lifelong vigilance over his son’s care, refusing to abandon hope for a recovery.
