Sony Pictures has officially announced the follow-up to Aaron Sorkin’s acclaimed film The Social Network, tentatively titled The Social Reckoning. This sequel is set to be released in theaters on October 9, 2026. Highlighting the intense scrutiny surrounding Facebook’s internal controversies, the film will explore the impact of the platform on society and its users.

The casting choices, first reported by Deadline’s Justin Kroll, have been confirmed. The all-star lineup includes Oscar nominee Jeremy Strong, who will take on the complex role of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. Oscar winner Mikey Madison has been cast as whistleblower Frances Haugen, whose revelations about Facebook’s practices shook the tech world. Jeremy Allen White, a Golden Globe and Emmy winner, will portray Jeff Horowitz, the Wall Street Journal reporter who uncovered the controversial “Facebook Files.”

Bill Burr, known for his work in Old Dads and The King of Staten Island, will also star in the film. The production team features industry veterans Todd Black, Peter Rice, Aaron Sorkin, and Stuart Besser.

The release date for The Social Reckoning coincides with the Indigenous Peoples’ Day weekend, positioning it alongside anticipated releases such as Universal and Blumhouse’s Other Mommy and Paramount Animation’s The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender.

Reflecting on its predecessor, The Social Network, released in 2010, the film received critical acclaim and commercial success. It grossed over $226 million globally and secured eight Oscar nominations, winning three awards for Adapted Screenplay, Original Score, and Film Editing. The original movie also helped launch the careers of its stars Jesse Eisenberg, Rooney Mara, Andrew Garfield, and Armie Hammer.

The Social Reckoning promises to deliver a compelling continuation of the exploration into the complexities of social media and its far-reaching impact. It is set to captivate audiences with its timely and provocative narrative, bolstered by a strong cast and the award-winning writing of Aaron Sorkin.
