Fans of “The Simpsons” can look forward to the beloved animated characters returning to the big screen. Disney has announced that a new untitled “The Simpsons” movie is slated for release on July 23, 2027. This marks the series’ second theatrical spin-off, following the success of “The Simpsons Movie” in 2007.

While details of the plot are still under wraps, 20th Century Studios confirmed the project on Instagram with a playful image of Homer Simpson reaching for a sprinkled pink donut, cleverly shaped to indicate a sequel. The caption teased, “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”

This new film is scheduled to share its release date with Warner Bros.’ animated musical “Bad Fairies,” previously reserved for an untitled Marvel movie.

“The Simpsons” originally premiered on Fox in December 1989, created by Matt Groening with the collaboration of James L. Brooks and Sam Simon. Having just commenced its 37th season, the series remains a cultural mainstay. The familiar voices of Dan Castellaneta (Homer), Julie Kavner (Marge), Nancy Cartwright (Bart), and Yeardley Smith (Lisa) will continue to bring the titular family to life.

The 2007 “The Simpsons Movie” was a box office success, grossing $536 million globally. Its storyline featured the Environmental Protection Agency encapsulating Springfield in a dome due to Homer’s accidental pollution of its water supply. At the time, critic Kirk Honeycutt praised the film’s ability to echo the series’ vintage years, labelling it “caustic, irreverent, constantly amusing and a tiny bit rude,” while retaining a certain charm.

As anticipation builds for this latest installment, fans are eager to see how “The Simpsons” will once again transition from television to cinemas, promising laughter and nostalgia for audiences worldwide.
