“The Running Man” is set to transition from theaters to home viewing, as the action-comedy featuring Glen Powell will be available on Paramount+ starting January 13.

Directed by Edgar Wright, this film adapts Stephen King’s 1982 novel, originally published under his pen name Richard Bachman. The plot centers on Ben Richards, portrayed by Powell, a blue-collar worker ostracized in a dystopian future. In a desperate attempt to elevate his family’s financial situation, he participates in a dangerous televised game show called “The Running Man,” where he must survive for 30 days while being pursued by both mercenaries hired by the network and ordinary participants. The stakes are high; if he survives the challenge, he stands to win an astounding $1 billion.

The cast is impressive, featuring notable talents like Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, and Sean Hayes, showcasing a blend of both seasoned and rising stars.

“The Running Man” was released in theaters on November 14, showing in 3,534 locations. Produced by Edgar Wright alongside Simon Kinberg and Nira Park, the film achieved a box office opening weekend gross of $16.5 million, ranking second to “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.” Over its theatrical run, the film earned over $69 million worldwide against a budget of $110 million, receiving a mix of reviews from critics.

This latest adaptation marks the second time King’s novel has been brought to the screen, following the 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, which remains a cultural touchstone. Despite the mixed critical reception, “The Running Man” has captivated audiences with its thrilling premise and star-studded cast, making its arrival on Paramount+ highly anticipated.
