Exciting developments are underway for fans of The Office, as Peacock has officially unveiled the name and release date of its much-anticipated spin-off series. Titled The Paper, the show is set to hit screens this September.
The Paper, crafted by The Office showrunner Greg Daniels alongside Michael Koman (Nathan for You), shifts the comedy setting from Scranton, Pennsylvania, to Toledo, Ohio. This time, the familiar documentary crew that previously followed the employees of Dunder Mifflin turns their lens on a struggling local newspaper. The protagonist, portrayed by Domhnall Gleeson (About Time), faces the challenge of low funds and the need for reporters, leading him to recruit untrained volunteers in a bid to revive the newspaper’s fortunes.
During NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation on May 12, Peacock revealed the show’s first image, featuring Gleeson energetically trying to motivate the newsroom, which notably includes a returning icon from The Office—Oscar Martinez, played by Oscar Nuñez.
Nuñez expressed his excitement about reprising his role, humorously noting that after The Office, he had envisioned his character moving to a larger city. “Greg heard me and moved Oscar to Toledo, Ohio, which has three times the population of Scranton, so it’s nice to be heard,” he quipped.
The Paper’s talented cast also includes Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus), along with Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key. With this diverse ensemble and the creative team behind it, The Paper promises to deliver a fresh and humorous take on the challenges of modern journalism.
Fans can look forward to a blend of nostalgia and new storylines when The Paper premieres later this year, as the series aims to capture the spirit of workplace comedy while exploring the dynamic of a community-focused newspaper.
