In recent years, alcohol collectors have spent upwards of a million dollars, both at auctions and in private sales, acquiring particularly coveted bottles of liquor and wine.
In January, Vietnamese collector Viet Nguyen Dinh Tuan spent more than $2 million on a rare bottle of cognac during a private sale. This is not Viet’s first high-value alcohol purchase, as his spirits collection is estimated to be worth more than $190 million.
For many, an enjoyable bottle of wine or liquor can be purchased for less than $100. However, for connoisseurs and collectors, high-end alcohol represents an investment comparable to fine art or luxury cars. This is especially true for whiskey and wine, both of which are known to improve with age.
