Thanksgiving Touchdown: Cowboys, Lainey Wilson, and Giving Back

The Dallas Cowboys’ Thanksgiving Day game has become a cherished tradition since its inception in 1966. Since 1997, this event has also marked the kickoff of the Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle Campaign, a partnership that has raised over $3 billion in 27 years, highlighting the urgent needs of millions of families during the holiday season.

Charlotte Jones, the Chief Brand Officer and co-owner of the Dallas Cowboys, has been instrumental in this innovative fundraising approach, inviting top musical acts to perform during halftime. This year, country music sensation and reigning CMA and ACM Entertainer of the Year, Lainey Wilson, will take the stage, celebrating the season of giving.

Wilson expressed her excitement about the opportunity, stating, “I’m so excited and honored. Just very thankful, tis the season. This is a big moment for me and my crew and especially to be teamed up with the Cowboys and Salvation Army. It’s truly an honor.” Charlotte Jones recognized Wilson’s talent and heart, emphasizing that this performance is not just about entertainment but also about connecting the audience to the purpose behind the initiative—supporting the Salvation Army.

Wilson also reflected on her successful year and the importance of using her platform for good, saying, “Being able to team up with these guys this year is truly icing on the cake for an incredible year. My dreams are coming true.”

The funds generated through the Red Kettle Campaign directly support local communities, and with fewer giving days this season, the Salvation Army is calling for volunteers to help ring bells and for shoppers to adopt angels from the organization’s Angel Trees across North Texas. This year features an unprecedented number of over 41,000 angels available for adoption, including children, seniors, and adults with special needs.

As the Dallas Cowboys continue to blend sports, entertainment, and philanthropy, this Thanksgiving tradition not only brings joy to fans but also provides much-needed assistance and hope to countless individuals in the community.

This story encapsulates the spirit of the holiday season, reminding us that generosity can make a significant impact during challenging times.
