Thanksgiving Holiday Trading: U.S. Stock Markets Close for the Day, Early Friday Hours

U.S. stock markets are set to close on Thursday, November 27, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Both the Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange will remain closed throughout Thanksgiving Day and will reopen on Friday, November 28, but with an early closing time at 1 p.m. ET. Additionally, the U.S. bond market will also be closed on Thanksgiving and will close at 2 p.m. ET on the day after.

Following the brief holiday break, Wall Street will resume its regular trading hours until late December, with the next scheduled market closure for Christmas on Thursday, December 25. On Christmas Eve, markets will again close early at 1 p.m. ET.

As Americans prepare for a holiday full of family and feasting, travelers should brace for potentially chaotic conditions due to a significant storm impacting various regions of the United States. Despite the travel challenges, the spirit of Thanksgiving is anticipated to bring families together across the country.

Looking ahead, the holiday schedule for 2025 indicates that U.S. stock markets will also be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas, maintaining this tradition in observance of the national holidays.

Such scheduling reflects both the cultural importance of Thanksgiving and the ongoing rhythm of U.S. financial markets, as they adapt to accommodate festive periods for investors and traders alike.
