Texas Tech Secures Five-Star Edge Rusher in Game-Changing Commitment!

LaDamion Guyton, a highly-regarded five-star edge rusher from Georgia, has officially committed to Texas Tech, marking a significant achievement for the Red Raiders in the 2027 recruiting class. Guyton, who ranks as the No. 2 prospect in the country, is set to join Texas Tech under a lucrative three-year contract valued at up to $3.5 million. According to sources, the terms of the deal include salary increments of $900,000 in the first year, $1.2 million in the second year, and $1.4 million in the third year.

This commitment is a remarkable win for Texas Tech, particularly as it has successfully leveraged its financial resources to attract high-caliber players through recruiting and the transfer portal. The recent advancements in NCAA regulations now allow athletes like Guyton to receive revenue-sharing contracts, although these offers can only be made once athletes reach their senior year in high school. Currently, Guyton is still expected to sign a contract during the early signing period in December 2026.

Additionally, Guyton’s selection of Texas Tech over prominent SEC schools, including Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee, showcases the Red Raiders’ improving recruiting landscape. Historically, Texas Tech had struggled to land five-star recruits, but their recent success appears to be shifting that narrative. They have also recently secured 2024 receiver Micah Hudson, positioning themselves to attract further top talent, including five-star offensive tackle Cooper Hackett from Oklahoma.

Guyton’s impressive stats speak volumes to his potential; during his first two seasons at Benedictine Military School in Savannah, he recorded 134 tackles, 16.5 sacks, and 33 tackles for loss. This performance has solidified his status as the second-best prospect in the 2027 class and the top edge rusher, according to rankings from both 247Sports Composite and Rivals Industry.

The evolution of Texas Tech’s recruiting strategy, highlighted by significant budget allocations—around $25 million for the 2025 football roster—demonstrates their commitment to cultivating a winning football program that competes at the highest levels. Ultimately, Guyton’s commitment marks a hopeful turning point for Texas Tech, as they aim for greater achievements in the Big 12 and beyond.
