Texas Takes the Top Spot: AP Poll Shakes Up Week 4 Rankings!

The latest AP Poll rankings have introduced a new number one team, marking significant changes in Week 4.

In the updated Week 4 AP Poll, Texas has climbed to the top spot, gathering 1540 points and a record of 3-0, after being ranked second previously. Georgia, which previously held the number one position, dropped to second place with 1518 points. Ohio State ranks third with 1461 points.

Key rankings include Alabama at fourth, Ole Miss at fifth, and Tennessee in sixth, all maintaining undefeated records. Missouri follows at seventh, while Miami (FL) enters the top ten at eighth. Oregon is in ninth, and Penn State rounds out the top ten.

Notably, Texas has achieved its highest ranking since October 2008, starting the season 3-0 and securing a critical victory against a top-10 opponent. This shift past Georgia comes as the Bulldogs narrowly defeated an unranked Kentucky team. Texas’s powerful offense has been effective regardless of whether quarterback Quinn Ewers or Arch Manning has taken the snaps.

Week 4 saw 35 first-place votes go to Texas, with Georgia receiving 23 and Ohio State getting 5.

In the Big 12, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, and Utah are closely competing just outside the top 10. Kansas State has climbed to 13th position following a victory against Arizona, while Oklahoma State sits at 14th after falling behind the Wildcats and Utah remains at 12th.

This week, Utah will face Oklahoma State, adding more excitement to the Big 12 title race.

In this week’s new entries to the rankings, Illinois and Texas A&M replaced Arizona and Boston College, both of which lost. Illinois improved to 3-0 with a win over a ranked Kansas team, while Texas A&M returned to the rankings after a dominant performance against Florida with a backup quarterback.
