Texas has claimed the No. 1 spot in the AP Poll for the first time since October 2008. In a striking similarity, T.I. and Britney Spears were at the top of the music charts the last time Texas was the best in college football. Currently, the Longhorns are enjoying a perfect start to the season at 3-0, featuring a notable road victory against a top-10 opponent.
Texas overtook Georgia after the Bulldogs narrowly defeated an unranked Kentucky team. The Texas offense has been dominating, regardless of whether Quinn Ewers or Arch Manning is playing quarterback.
In terms of first-place votes during Week 4, Texas received 35, Georgia 23, and Ohio State 5.
In other developments from Week 3, Georgia managed a close win against Kentucky, LSU pulled off an exciting victory, and Memphis shocked Florida State.
The Big 12 is seeing a close race with teams positioned just below the top 10 in the AP Poll. Kansas State climbed to No. 13 after defeating then-No. 20 Arizona, while Oklahoma State dropped to No. 14, and Utah maintained its position at No. 12.
A significant matchup is anticipated this week as Utah faces Oklahoma State, with Kansas State set to host the Cowboys the following week. The competition for the Big 12 title is expected to intensify soon.
In rankings news, Illinois and Texas A&M have entered the top 25 this week. Only two teams within the top 25 suffered losses in Week 3, allowing for Illinois and Texas A&M to replace them. Illinois is currently 3-0 with a notable win against a ranked Kansas team and a victory over Central Michigan. Texas A&M made a strong comeback, decisively defeating Florida with its backup quarterback after starting the season ranked and then falling unranked for two weeks.
