U.S. Representative Troy Nehls, a Republican from Texas, has announced that he will not seek reelection following the conclusion of his current term. This decision ends a distinguished career that spans over three decades in both law enforcement and military service. Nehls represents Texas’ 22nd Congressional District, which includes parts of Fort Bend County and the Katy area.
On social media, Nehls revealed his choice, attributing it to heartfelt discussions over Thanksgiving with his family. “After more than 30 years in law enforcement serving and protecting my community as a police officer, constable, Fort Bend County Sheriff, an Army veteran, and six years representing this district in Congress, I have made the decision… to focus on my family and return home after this Congress,” he stated.
Prior to the official announcement, Nehls took the time to inform former President Donald Trump about his decision, valuing their connection. He described Trump as “a strong ally for our district and a true friend,” emphasizing the importance of the communication.
Nehls’ career highlights include serving as a Fort Bend County constable and as all sheriff of the county from 2013 to 2021 before his election to Congress in 2021. Reflecting on his journey, he expressed his gratitude: “Serving this country in the military, serving our community in law enforcement, and serving this district in Congress has been the honor of my life. Thank you for your trust, your friendship, and your prayers.”
Nehls’ current term is set to expire in January 2027, marking the end of an impactful career dedicated to public service and community safety. His decision to prioritize family resonates with many as a testament to balancing public duties with personal commitments.
