Texas Governor Greg Abbott has taken proactive measures by deploying National Guard troops to San Antonio in anticipation of a significant protest scheduled for Wednesday evening. The state is fully prepared to allocate all necessary resources to maintain law and order during these demonstrations.

According to Press Secretary Andrew Mahaleris, “The State of Texas stands ready to deploy all necessary personnel and resources to uphold law and order across our state.” He emphasized that while peaceful protests are an essential aspect of American society, any unlawful actions similar to those witnessed recently in Los Angeles will not be tolerated. Individuals participating in violence or property destruction will face immediate legal consequences.

The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) has confirmed the National Guard’s deployment. Assistant Chief Jesse Salame noted, “Chief McManus was able to confirm that the Governor sent members of the National Guard to San Antonio,” although specific details regarding the troop deployment remain limited.

In response to the planned protest, Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Police Chief William McManus, along with other city officials, will host a press conference on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall. They aim to discuss the city’s strategies to support peaceful demonstrations while ensuring public safety.

Chief McManus reiterated the SAPD’s dedication to protecting the constitutional rights of individuals and groups engaging in lawful protests. He reported that the department monitored a peaceful gathering at City Hall on Sunday and will continue its commitment to ensuring safety at future events. Additionally, to facilitate safe demonstrations, organizers are encouraged to submit applications through the Office of Processions and Public Assemblies, enabling the development of customized Traffic Safety Plans for their events.

While the situation evolves, the commitment to uphold citizens’ rights alongside public safety is notably optimistic. The anticipation of peaceful demonstrations emphasizes the potential for constructive dialogue within the community.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available regarding the scheduled protests and the city’s responses.
