Texas Longhorns Dominate Mississippi State in SEC Showdown

AUSTIN, Texas — In front of a record crowd of 101,388, the Texas Longhorns achieved their first SEC victory by defeating Mississippi State 35-13 on Saturday at Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium.

Quarterback Arch Manning impressively completed 26 of 31 passes, racking up 324 yards alongside two touchdown passes. He also added a rushing touchdown to his performance. DeAndre Moore Jr. was a standout receiver, recording four catches for 103 yards and two touchdowns, while Quintrevion Wisner contributed 88 yards from 13 carries.

The game saw a crucial moment when Texas stopped Mississippi State on a fourth down at their 28-yard line. The Longhorns quickly capitalized, concluding a 5-play, 72-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown rush by Jaydon Blue, marking his fourth rushing touchdown of the season.

Texas ended the first half dramatically, with Manning throwing a 49-yard touchdown pass to Moore Jr., elevating the Longhorns to a 14-6 lead. This impressive 8-play drive lasted just 1:27.

Early in the third quarter, the Texas defense delivered a pivotal turnover as Vernon Broughton sacked Mississippi State quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr., forcing and recovering a fumble at the Texas 43-yard line. This was part of a trend for the Longhorns, who have forced eight turnovers in five games, securing at least one in each outing.

Manning showcased his agility with a 26-yard rush leading to a 1-yard touchdown run that extended Texas’s lead to 21-6 by the end of the third quarter. This marked Manning’s third career rushing touchdown and his third game this season with both a passing and rushing touchdown. Soon after, Manning connected with Moore Jr. again for a 27-yard touchdown, concluding an 8-play, 85-yard drive.

Isaiah Bond capped off Texas’s victory with a 26-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter, solidifying the score at 35-13. This was Bond’s first career rushing touchdown.
