Texas A&M, with a record of 8-4, is set to compete against USC, which holds a 6-6 record, in the upcoming Las Vegas Bowl on Friday night. Coach Mike Elko aims to wrap up the year positively and secure the Aggies’ first nine-win season since 2020.
As both teams arrived in Las Vegas, they shared a stylish entrance while gearing up to finish the 2024 season strong and build momentum for the 2025 offseason. This game represents a pivotal opportunity for Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed to enhance his passing skills, which could significantly impact the team’s performance leading into spring football.
In a media briefing on Thursday, Elko provided updates on player progress and specific position groups, while addressing injury concerns for key players, including sophomore running back Rueben Owens and junior right guard Ar’maj Reed-Adams. A recent image shared by KBTX reporter Travis Brown showed Reed-Adams with his left arm in a sling, suggesting that he is unlikely to take part in the game following multiple injuries throughout the season.
Elko also commented on Rueben Owens’ readiness, indicating that although Owens had a productive practice week, he is still recovering from a significant injury: “He has had a good week of preparation. He is not all the way back. That is a five-month injury. We are at four months,” Elko explained.
Additionally, Elko assured fans that there have been no further player opt-outs since his last update earlier this month. However, it was confirmed by TexAgs’ Billy Liucci that running back Amari Daniels, linebacker Scooby Williams, and cornerback Jayvon Thomas will miss the Friday match against USC.
The Texas A&M vs. USC game will kick off on Friday, December 27, at 9:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcasted live on ESPN.
As fans prepare for this exciting matchup, there’s hope that the game will not only serve as a strong close to the season but also provide valuable experience for the Aggies’ younger players. This game could be a stepping stone toward a successful 2025 campaign for Texas A&M.
