Texas officials are already preparing for the upcoming March 2026 party primaries, following the completion of the recent elections. The candidate filing period opens on Saturday and will last until December 8. Primary Election Day is set for March 3, where voters will select party nominees for numerous state and county offices leading up to the General Election on November 3, 2026, as announced by the Texas Secretary of State.
Significant offices that will be contested in the 2026 elections include the U.S. Senate seat, all U.S. House representatives, governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and every seat in the Texas House of Representatives. Notably, House District 69, which encompasses Wichita County, will be among these competitive races.
The elections will also feature 16 state senate seats, including Senate District 28, which represents part of Wichita County and Wichita Falls.
Within Wichita County, several key local offices will appear on the ballots, including the positions of county judge, district clerk, county clerk, county treasurer, as well as county commissioner roles for Precincts 2 and 4. Voters will also have the opportunity to elect a sheriff for an unexpired term, judges for the 30th District Court, County Court at Law No. 1 and No. 2, as well as a district attorney and justices of the peace across multiple precincts.
Additionally, while the November 2026 ballots will include city and school district elections, it is important to note that these positions are not party-affiliated and will have a separate candidate filing period later in 2026.
This legislative cycle presents an opportunity for Texas residents to engage with the electoral process, ensuring that their voices are heard in the selection of key leadership positions at both the state and local levels.
