Texans Tweak Roster Ahead of Training Camp: Who’s In and Who’s Out?

The Houston Texans made several roster updates as they prepare for their first training camp practice on Wednesday. Running back Joe Mixon will begin camp on the non-football injury list, while fellow running backs Dameon Pierce and J.J. Taylor have also been placed on the physically unable to perform list.

These roster changes allow for flexibility, as all three players, along with ten others on various injured lists, can still be activated during training camp. Among those on the physically unable to perform list (PUP) are defensive ends Denico Autry and Derek Barnett, offensive tackle Trent Brown, center Eli Cox, wide receiver Tank Dell, defensive tackles Foley Fatukasi and Kurt Hinish, linebacker K.C. Ossai, and defensive back Jimmie Ward. Cornerback Alijah Huzzie is also joining Mixon on the non-football injury list.

In a move to bolster their roster, the Texans waived rookie corner Keydrain Calligan to sign veteran cornerback Arthur Maulet.

These adjustments highlight the Texans’ proactive approach in ensuring the strength of their roster as they navigate the early stages of the training camp. With the possibility of activating players during camp, there is optimism that the team can return to full strength as preparations for the upcoming season progress.
