Texans Star Tank Dell Hospitalized: What’s Next for His Season?

HOUSTON — Texans wide receiver Tank Dell was hospitalized overnight after suffering a severe knee injury during Saturday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, which ended in a 27-19 loss for Houston. Coach DeMeco Ryans announced Dell’s release from the hospital on Sunday, but he did not provide detailed updates about the extent of the injury or Dell’s future.

“Right now, we still will be evaluating to see where he is,” Ryans expressed. “He’s still meeting with doctors to see what’s next for him. But it is a significant knee injury.”

Dell’s injury occurred while making a 30-yard touchdown catch. As he celebrated the play, he collided with teammate Jared Wayne upon landing, leading him to immediately signal for medical attention after grasping at his knee. The scene prompted team trainers to tend to him for several minutes before he was taken off the field on a stretcher and transported to the hospital.

When asked whether Dell would be able to return this season, Ryans noted, “We don’t — we’re still evaluating that to see what will happen.” He also expressed gratitude towards the Kansas City medical staff for their assistance in caring for Dell following the injury.

Dell was having an impressive game, tallying six catches for 98 yards and one touchdown before his injury. However, this marks the second consecutive season that Dell has faced a serious injury. Last year, he fractured his fibula in Week 13, requiring surgery shortly afterward. Earlier this year, he was an innocent bystander in a shooting incident but recovered quickly.

As a third-round pick from the University of Houston last year, Dell has emerged as a key player for the Texans. He ranks second on the team with 51 receptions for 667 yards and three touchdowns this season, making his injury a significant setback for the struggling team, which is already dealing with the absence of fellow receiver Stefon Diggs due to a season-ending injury.

Despite this challenging situation, Dell’s resilience and the support from his team and the Kansas City medical staff offer a glimmer of hope. Fans remain hopeful that he will recover and eventually return to the field stronger than ever.

This situation emphasizes the unpredictable nature of sports injuries and the importance of player safety, urging teams to continue prioritizing the health and well-being of their athletes.
