The Houston Texans are actively considering the location for a new team headquarters, with discussions accelerating in recent weeks, according to team president Mike Tomon. In an interview with the Houston Chronicle, Tomon revealed that multiple suitors have approached the team, seeking to present options for relocating the headquarters and training facility.
Tomon emphasized the need for the franchise to be prepared to seize this opportunity, remarking, “They’ve gotten mature enough that it has become apparent to us that we need to get prepared to take advantage of something this significant.” Currently, the Texans operate out of NRG Stadium, which is also home to their practice facility.
With aspirations of creating a “world-class” training center complemented by an entertainment district, the Texans are looking to follow in the footsteps of the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys set a standard in 2016 by establishing a 91-acre facility known as The Star, featuring a state-of-the-art headquarters and a 12,000-seat indoor stadium.
While Harris County is among the potential locations for the Texans’ new base, many other counties and local entities have also shown interest. Tomon indicated that although there is no definitive timeline for the decision—whether it be in 30 days or six months—there is a growing momentum in the discussions. “It’s gotten to that level where it’s like, ‘We now need to make sure we’re prepared to start this journey,’” he stated.
The potential move is significant as it highlights the Texans’ commitment to enhancing their organization and infrastructure, aligning them with modern team exigencies and the expectations of their fanbase. This endeavor could ultimately lead to a more robust presence in the Houston area, creating new opportunities for the team and the community.
