Tesla’s stock experienced a notable increase on Monday, fueled by Elon Musk’s ongoing promotion of the company’s humanoid robots. Musk shared on social media platform X that Tesla plans to produce useful humanoid robots internally next year, with a broader production goal for external use by 2026.

Earlier this year, during Tesla’s annual shareholders meeting, Musk indicated that the company intends to enter limited production of the Optimus robots in 2025, with an expectation that over 1,000 of these robots would be operational at Tesla facilities by year-end. Currently, two robots are already in use on the factory floor, although the company has not disclosed their specific functions.

Musk has previously suggested that the introduction of these robots could potentially add $20 trillion to Tesla’s market capitalization, aiming to launch the product for sale by the end of 2025 at a projected price range of $20,000 to $30,000.

However, the exact usefulness of these robots remains uncertain. Past demonstrations have drawn scrutiny, with critics pointing out that some videos may have misrepresented the robots’ capabilities—such as a reported incident where a robot folding a shirt was allegedly controlled by a person off-screen.

Market analysts are cautious about Tesla’s ability to compete in the humanoid robot space, with Craig Irwin of MKM expressing skepticism about their progress compared to industry leaders like Boston Dynamics, and noting that Tesla’s past promotional tactics have often appeared more theatrical than substantive.

Despite these concerns, Tesla’s stock rose over 3% in response to Musk’s latest comments. Shares have remained relatively stable year-to-date after recovering significantly over the last couple of months. Investors are now looking forward to Tesla’s second-quarter earnings report on Tuesday, where Musk may provide updates on the much-anticipated robotaxi project.

This advancing focus on humanoid robots represents an exciting frontier for Tesla, showcasing the company’s ambition to innovate beyond electric vehicles. While challenges remain, the potential for significant advancements in automation and robotics could herald a new chapter not just for Tesla but for various industries globally.

Overall, as Tesla unveils its plans, there remains a sense of optimism in the air—demonstrating the spirit of innovation that continues to drive the company’s initiatives.
