Tesla Leads Australia’s November 2025 EV Surge—Is a Record Year Ahead?

Electric vehicle (EV) sales in Australia have shown significant growth in November, rebounding from previous lows recorded in October. A total of 9,081 EVs were sold, representing a 9.1% share of the new car market, up from 7.3% the previous month. This growth was highlighted by Tesla’s resurgence, with the Model Y and Model 3 leading the charge and contributing over 2,700 sales.

BYD also maintained a strong presence, achieving 1,926 sales across its five models, bolstered by the performance of the newly released Atto 2. The Chinese-made Zeekr 7X made a notable entrance into the market, claiming the third spot among best-selling electric cars with impressive sales of 682 units.

Data compiled from two major suppliers, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) and the Electric Vehicle Council (EVC), reveals a flourishing EV market. The figures indicate a significant year-on-year increase, with 92,885 electric cars sold so far in 2025, compared to just over 82,961 during the same period the previous year.

The breakdown of November’s sales reflects the growing variety of options for consumers, with plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) also experiencing robust sales of 4,768 units. Leading this segment was the BYD Shark 6.

The best-selling electric vehicles for November 2025 include:

1. Tesla Model Y – 2,269 sales
2. BYD Sealion 7 – 1,040 sales
3. Zeekr 7X – 682 sales
4. Tesla Model 3 – 433 sales
5. Geely EX5 – 412 sales

As the year approaches its end, FCAI CEO Tony Weber emphasized the expanding choice of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), noting that there are 110 models available in 2025. He also urged government support for enhancing recharging infrastructure, which is crucial for fostering consumer confidence in this emerging technology.

The outlook for EV sales is optimistic, with December incentives expected to further bolster figures, setting the stage for what is projected to be a record-breaking year for electric vehicle adoption in Australia.
