Rep. Mark Green of Tennessee has officially resigned from his position in the House of Representatives, a move he announced with heartfelt reflections on his career. Green’s retirement marks his second exit from politics; he had previously announced plans to retire but reconsidered after receiving numerous requests from constituents, fellow legislators, and even former President Donald Trump to seek re-election.
Throughout his tenure, which began in 2019, Green represented Tennessee’s 7th District, covering areas including Cheatham, Montgomery, and parts of Davidson County. In his farewell statement, Green expressed gratitude to his constituents, stating, “Thank you. The trust you put in me is humbling. I will look back fondly on my years of serving as your voice in Washington.”
His last vote in Congress was on July 3, reflecting his commitment to issues close to his heart, such as veteran affairs and border security. He noted, “My time here started with a fire to serve veterans… and now it ends with achieving real border security.”
Green’s multifaceted background as a combat veteran, emergency room doctor, and former state senator has shaped his legislative priorities and approach to governance. As he moves on from politics, his contributions will undoubtedly be remembered by those in his district and beyond.
This resignation presents an opportunity for new leadership and refreshed perspectives within Tennessee’s 7th District.
