Telecom Fiji is embarking on an ambitious upgrade of connectivity in the Western Division through the Nakorokula–Tavua Fibre Project. This initiative aims to deliver faster and more reliable internet services to homes, schools, businesses, and essential services in the area.
Chief Executive Charles Goundar highlighted the importance of this project in furthering education, enhancing the operations of small businesses, and facilitating effective emergency responses, as well as catering to the daily digital needs of residents. The initiative includes replacing old and damaged fibre lines along the route, which will provide households and businesses with greater connectivity and security.
Goundar emphasized that the project is poised to significantly boost development opportunities, particularly in the Tavua–Rakiraki corridor, a region recognized for its potential growth and investment. With the upgrade, entrepreneurs, farmers, tourism operators, and government services are expected to operate more efficiently and expand their outreach.
Scheduled to commence in mid-November with an expected completion by May next year, the project will reduce service disruptions and enhance online access across various sectors, including schools, health centers, and government operations. Moreover, the new link will enable businesses to leverage modern digital tools and cloud services effectively, ultimately improving customer service.
Telecom Fiji’s ongoing commitment to advancing telecommunications infrastructure aligns with previous initiatives aimed at expanding digital connectivity across regions like Vanua Levu through projects such as the successful Savusavu to Labasa Fibre Project. Overall, such developments represent a hopeful step towards a more connected future in Fiji, fostering economic growth and empowering communities through enhanced access to digital resources.
