Telecom Fiji Limited has made a notable contribution to cancer awareness in Fiji by donating $15,000 to the Fiji Cancer Society. This generous gesture was made public during a heartfelt Pinktober morning tea held at the Labasa Exchange, showcasing the company’s dedication to supporting individuals impacted by cancer across the nation.
Belinda Chan, the CEO of the Fiji Cancer Society, expressed her appreciation for the donation, pointing out that such support enhances their outreach capabilities significantly. She stated, “With this donation, our outreach team can extend its journey across Fiji, which has already covered over 200,000 kilometers, conducting more than 281 cancer awareness sessions and screenings. The partnership with organizations like Telecom Fiji enables us to amplify our reach, save lives, and contribute positively to our community.”
In the last four years, the Fiji Cancer Society has channeled considerable resources into patient support services, amounting to over $675,000. This funding has facilitated essential services, including transportation for treatment, medication assistance, and emotional support for families affected by cancer. Furthermore, an additional $259,674 has been dedicated to diagnostic tests, chemotherapy drugs, and addressing procedural backlogs at the oncology unit in CWM Hospital.
At the event, cancer survivor Sereima Lalibuli shared her inspiring story, emphasizing the crucial role of early detection in defeating cancer. Her experiences resonated with the attendees, demonstrating firsthand the impact of the Society’s work in promoting awareness and prevention.
