Telecom Fiji Limited has recently made a significant contribution to cancer awareness and support in Fiji by donating $15,000 to the Fiji Cancer Society. The donation was announced during a heartfelt Pinktober morning tea event held at their Labasa Exchange, reflecting the company’s ongoing commitment to aiding those affected by cancer throughout the nation.
CEO of the Fiji Cancer Society, Belinda Chan, expressed gratitude for the generosity, highlighting how this support enhances their outreach efforts. “With this donation, our outreach team can extend its journey across Fiji, which has already covered over 200,000 kilometers, conducting more than 281 cancer awareness sessions and screenings. The partnership with organizations like Telecom Fiji enables us to amplify our reach, save lives, and contribute positively to our community,” she stated.
Over the past four years, the Fiji Cancer Society has invested considerable resources in patient support services, totaling over $675,000. These funds have been used for essential services such as transportation for treatment, medication, and emotional support for families impacted by cancer. An additional $259,674 has been allocated to diagnostic tests, chemotherapy drugs, and alleviating procedural backlogs in the oncology unit at CWM Hospital.
During the event, cancer survivor Sereima Lalibuli shared her personal journey, emphasizing the importance of early detection in successfully battling cancer. Her story resonated with attendees, underscoring the real-life impact of the Society’s efforts in promoting cancer awareness.
Telecom Fiji’s involvement during Pinktober serves as a testament to its enduring commitment to corporate social responsibility and community welfare. Such initiatives reflect a growing trend among businesses to engage meaningfully in social causes, fostering an environment where individuals feel supported in their battles against cancer. The collective efforts showcased during the event not only highlight the strength of community solidarity but also inspire hope among those affected by this disease. Through collaboration and generosity, both Telecom Fiji and the Fiji Cancer Society are making substantial strides in the ongoing fight against cancer.
