Fifteen-year-old Jone Loga is filled with joy after playing a pivotal role in helping Rakiraki FC secure their Senior Division title at the 2025 FMF IDC. The team emerged victorious against RA Logistic Lami FC with a decisive score of 6-2 in an exhilarating extra-time match. Loga attributed their hard-fought win to faith, teamwork, and motivating words from their coach, especially after they managed to equalize in a tense 2-2 tie at the conclusion of regulation time.
“I want to thank God Almighty for the win,” Loga expressed. “I’m so happy to be part of this Rakiraki team and winning my first major football tournament.” The turning point came in the second half when Sanjay Dutt scored a crucial equalizer in the 79th minute, allowing the match to go into extra time. During the additional period, Rakiraki took control, with Loga netting a goal in the 104th minute to spark a dominant performance.
Loga’s teammate, substitute Watisoni Seru, further shined during extra time, scoring an impressive hat-trick that sealed Rakiraki’s victory and marked their second consecutive IDC Senior Division title. This triumph reinforces the team’s resilience and strength throughout the tournament.
Rakiraki’s success follows their thrilling penalty shootout win against Dreketi in the previous year’s tournament, demonstrating their ability to perform under pressure. This ongoing consistency reflects the efforts of both the coaching staff and the players, positioning Rakiraki FC for a promising future in Fiji’s football landscape.
The team’s victory comes with a significant prize of $3,500 for their efforts, while Lami, as runners-up, received $1,500. This tournament has not only emphasized the spirit of healthy competition but also inspired youth to engage with football, promising to motivate future generations in the sport.
