A South Carolina teen, 19-year-old Samuel Theodore Cain, has been charged with threatening to assassinate U.S. Representative Nancy Mace. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) reported that Cain, also known by the alias Roxie Wolfe, made the threatening statement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on April 26, declaring, “I’m going to assassinate representative Nancy Mace with a gun and I’m being 100% dead ass.”
Following the threatening post, Cain admitted to federal agents on April 30 that he had indeed made the threat. He has been denied bond and is currently held at the Greenville County Detention Center, with the case set for prosecution by the 13th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. Mace addressed the situation in a statement after the bond denial, confirming that the threat was directed at her.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding threats against public officials and raises awareness about the seriousness of such actions. Authorities continue to investigate and address these threats to ensure the safety of elected representatives. It is important for individuals to remember that threats of violence carry significant legal consequences and impact community safety.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible behavior online and the need for constructive dialogue in political discourse.
