Fans of “Ted Lasso” can rejoice as significant progress is being made toward the much-anticipated fourth season of the beloved Apple TV+ series. Warner Bros. Television, the show’s studio, has reportedly secured the options for three key cast members who were initially contracted through the UK acting union Equity. The returning favorites include Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Walton, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, and Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins.
Following this commitment, the studio is expected to reach out to other cast members who have SAG-AFTRA contracts but whose options have recently expired, necessitating new agreements. This group likely includes co-creators and executive producers Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt, as well as Juno Temple, who plays Keeley Jones. However, it appears that Phil Dunster, known for his role as Jamie Tartt, has not been retained, potentially due to his involvement with other projects such as Prime Video’s “The Devil’s Hour” and Apple’s “Surface.”
While it’s uncertain which additional cast members might be contacted for Season 4, many have expressed their desire to return. Some may even make guest appearances if the opportunity arises.
Acquiring the core cast is a promising sign toward obtaining a green light for Season 4, which will ultimately depend on budget considerations and scheduling conflicts, especially since some actors may have committed to other series. As discussions with cast members commence, preparations for a writers’ room are also underway, with hopes for production to kick off in early 2025. Representatives from WBTV and Apple TV+ have opted not to comment on these developments.
The push for a new season suggests that Sudeikis, who is integral to the show both in front of and behind the camera, is supportive of continuing the series. He initially envisioned “Ted Lasso” as a three-season project but has kept the door open for further narratives depending on the right concept.
“Ted Lasso,” which debuted during the pandemic in August 2020, has become a cultural phenomenon, celebrated for its uplifting message and charismatic lead. The show has garnered critical acclaim, winning 13 Emmy Awards during its first three seasons, including consecutive awards for Outstanding Comedy Series and acting wins for Sudeikis, Goldstein, and Waddingham.
The finale of Season 3, which aired in May 2023, left fans with hints of new beginnings for character partnerships and concluded with touching resolutions for the main cast, including Ted coaching his son in Kansas.
