Leaders in the tech and business sectors have strongly condemned the assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday.
The incident resulted in the death of one spectator and critically injured two others. The alleged shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was also killed, according to a statement from the U.S. Secret Service. Trump is safe and set to speak at the Republican National Convention this week in Milwaukee.
CEOs of major companies including Apple, Microsoft, and Meta spoke out against the violence, emphasizing that political violence poses a threat to democracy.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg expressed his concern on Threads, saying, “Praying for a quick recovery for President Trump. This is such a sad day for our country. Political violence undermines democracy and must always be condemned.”
Apple CEO Tim Cook also condemned the attack, and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella added, “There is simply no place for any type of violence in our society. Sending my best wishes to President Trump for a speedy recovery and to all those impacted by today’s horrific event,” he wrote on X.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Tesla CEO Elon Musk also condemned the assassination attempt. Musk stated, “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery.”
