Coastal Carolina University baseball fans are buzzing with excitement as they gear up for the highly anticipated game on Friday, with the vibrant teal color taking over Downtown Conway in a show of support for their team, which is competing in the Men’s College World Series in Omaha.
This marks the second time since 2016 that the Coastal Carolina baseball team has advanced to the prestigious World Series, and fans are ready to rally behind them as they aim for victory. “I’m really excited to see Coastal play in Omaha! I’ve been tuning into every game possible, and I’m here to buy a sports jersey,” said Paige Sullivan, a CCU student pursuing her master’s in sports management.
The fervor has transformed local shopping, with the Teal Nation store reporting that they sold out of the popular Omaha baseball caps within just three days, moving an impressive 900 units. Julie Hardwick, a member of the Conway City Council, proudly showcasing her recently acquired Omaha hat, expressed her enthusiasm: “I’ll be wearing a teal shirt with Coastal baseball on it, and I’ll have my Omaha baseball hat on, and we’ll be cheering.”
Moreover, local businesses are also gearing up for the influx of fans. Jasmine Herstine, the general manager of Hop N Wich, indicated readiness for the festivities, stating, “We want everybody to come out and watch the game. We will have all the games on all the TVs, and we will have some drinks and happy hour. It’s supposed to be a good turnout.”
CCU’s first matchup in the World Series is set for 2 p.m. ET on Friday, and fans are optimistic, showcasing a community united in support of its team. This spirit of camaraderie and pride not only fuels the players on the field but also strengthens community bonds, illustrating the power of sports to bring people together.
