Christina Formella, a 30-year-old former teacher at Downers Grove South High School in Chicago, is currently facing over 50 charges related to the sexual abuse of a 15-year-old student. Allegations suggest that the inappropriate relationship lasted two years, during which Formella reportedly engaged in sexual acts with the student on at least 50 occasions, including 45 times on school premises.
Despite the severity of the accusations—including charges of criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse—her husband, Michael Formella, has publicly supported her, claiming that his wife is being unfairly targeted due to her looks. The couple was seen holding hands in court, appearing confident despite the circumstances.
Since June, Formella has been living with her parents under supervision and wearing an ankle monitor as part of the conditions of her bail. During a recent court hearing, she requested that the distance restriction from the alleged victim be reduced from 5,000 feet to 2,500 feet, stating that the teen often frequents areas near her home. However, this request was denied by the judge.
Prosecutor Jaclyn McAndrew outlined in court that Formella had begun grooming the boy from the age of 14, and highlighted her act of using the guise of tutoring to initiate the inappropriate relationship. Furthermore, she has maintained her innocence, asserting that the messages sent to the student were fabricated, claiming that he hacked her phone as a means of blackmail.
