Newport – Speculation is swirling around whether pop icon Taylor Swift might choose the opulent Breakers mansion in Newport for her upcoming wedding to NFL star Travis Kelce. The Daily Mail, a British tabloid, has fueled this speculation by suggesting that this historic venue, created by Cornelius Vanderbilt II in 1895, could host the event.
However, Gary Ruff, spokesman for the Preservation Society of Newport County, which manages The Breakers, has firmly dismissed the idea. “Taylor Swift is not getting married at The Breakers. It’s just not happening,” he stated, emphasizing that the mansion does not host weddings. He further noted that no weddings have taken place on the property since its time under Vanderbilt ownership.
The Breakers stands as a popular tourist attraction and museum, open to the public for 363 days a year, which does not allow room for private functions like weddings, apart from two holiday closures on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Ruff also mentioned that none of the other mansions owned by the Preservation Society could accommodate a Swift wedding either.
Since getting engaged to Kelce in August, rumors about the couple’s wedding date have circulated, with some suggesting June 13, 2026, at the Ocean House in Westerly. These rumors are fueled by reports that a couple scheduled to use the hotel on that date was offered a staggering $500,000 along with their wedding expenses to relinquish their reservation.
In light of these rumors, local officials in Westerly are considering the logistics of hosting such a high-profile event. Town Manager Shawn Lacey expressed curiosity about the potential guest list and its implications for the village. He acknowledged that a small wedding could be managed easily, but a larger event could present significant challenges. “If she has 300 people, it will turn into a problem – a problem we’ll deal with,” Lacey noted, highlighting the security concerns that would arise with A-list attendees.
He compared the potential security needs to those of a royal wedding, stating that they would likely require support from various agencies, including the state police and Homeland Security. Lacey reflected on Olivia Culpo’s wedding last year, suggesting that Swift’s could present even greater demands given her global celebrity status.
Regardless of the venue, excitement around Taylor Swift’s potential wedding continues to grow, as fans and locals alike wonder how such a high-profile event would unfold in their community.
