Tate McRae is making waves once again, just over a year after the successful release of her second album, Think Later. This album, which debuted impressively at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, introduced fans to her lively alter ego, Tatiana, a persona characterized by confidence and audacity, traits that notably shone through on the hit single “Greedy,” which reached No. 3 on the Hot 100.
With her new album, So Close To What, McRae further explores her confident personality. The album includes a trio of hits that have already caught listeners’ attention: “It’s Ok I’m Ok,” which climbed to No. 20 on the Hot 100; “2 Hands,” reaching No. 41; and “Sports Car,” which peaked at No. 21. Spanning 15 tracks and running just under 45 minutes, this album features collaborations with rising stars Flo Milli on “bloodonmyhands” and her boyfriend, The Kid LAROI, on “I Know Love.” The production primarily involves Ryan Tedder, alongside talented contributors like Amy Allen, Julia Michaels, and Blake Slatkin.
Recently, an intimate listening party for So Close To What took place in Los Angeles, hosted by Spotify. During the event, McRae engaged in a conversation with her friend Jake Shane about the album’s inspirations and the hurdles she faced. Reflecting on her recent milestone of turning 21, the singer shared how the album title resonates with her journey, capturing the feeling of embracing adulthood while grappling with media representations.
Intriguingly, she revealed that many of the songs, including “Sports Car,” were crafted by her alter ego, Tatiana. Looking ahead, McRae is set to embark on her second world tour starting in March, named after the lead track “Miss Possessive,” with performances scheduled in various locations across Europe and North America, concluding in September.
