From sweet powder-sugared elephant ears to tangy lemonades and crispy corn dogs, the downtown area is bustling with food trucks. The newly created map is available online at TulipTimeEats.com, pinpointing the locations of vendors at various street corners, along the carnival midway, and near Windmill Island Gardens.
An enthusiastic Facebook user highlighted how difficult it can be to locate the popular Fat Ball truck, likening the search to finding Waldo, indicating the need for the innovative map. Locals and visitors alike are also keen on discovering the flavorful Dutch delicacy, Oliebollen. These deep-fried treats, which are filled with fruit, can be found at Old World Deli, located at 94 W 9th St near the First United Methodist Church parking lot. This vendor also offers corn dogs and sausage with peppers and onions.
Oliebollen, also known as oil balls, have historical roots that trace back to the 1667 Dutch cookbook “De Verstandige Kock,” emphasizing their long-standing significance in Dutch culinary tradition. Traditionally, they are enjoyed during winter celebrations, especially on New Year’s Eve in the Netherlands, contributing to the festive spirit of the Tulip Time celebration.
