On November 15, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan made an official visit to the Center of Islamic Civilization in Tashkent. This remarkable institution, founded under a decree by Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in 2018, serves as a significant hub for the study and promotion of Islamic heritage.
Spread over an impressive area of more than 10 hectares, the center is designed to reflect the architectural grandeur of ancient Samarkand. Its iconic 65-meter-high dome stands as a testament to the blend of modernity and tradition that characterizes this landmark project, which involved the collaboration of hundreds of scientists, experts, and public figures.
The Center of Islamic Civilization boasts a wide range of facilities aimed at promoting research and education. Its extensive library holds around 100,000 manuscripts and over a million books, offering invaluable resources for scholars and the public alike. Additionally, the center features sections for research, publishing, archives, and a manuscript fund devoted to the preservation of rare texts.
Among its numerous exhibitions, visitors can explore halls dedicated to various historical themes, including “Pre-Islamic Civilizations” and “New Uzbekistan – the Basis of the Third Renaissance.” One of the highlights of the museum is the “Holy Quran” hall, which houses the revered “Muskhaf Usman” and rare copies of the Quran from various historical eras, reflecting the profound impact of Islamic culture throughout time.
The center also employs modern technology to enhance the visitor experience, including a massive multimedia panel known as the “Wall of Time,” which utilizes holography and projection techniques to commemorate significant historical events and figures.
In line with its mission, the center actively collaborates with notable international organizations such as UNESCO and ICESCO, continuing its commitment to cultural exchange and understanding.
