Tarleton State University announced on Friday that their men’s basketball head coach, Billy Gillispie, has been placed on temporary administrative leave following an anonymous complaint that has triggered an employee conduct review. The university has not disclosed any details regarding the nature of the complaint, stating that they will not provide further comments on this ongoing personnel matter.
Despite being reached for comment by The Dallas Morning News, Gillispie opted to remain silent about the situation. The 65-year-old coach is nearing the end of his sixth season at Tarleton State, marking the longest tenure of his five Division I coaching stints, which also includes notable positions at Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UTEP, and Kentucky.
Last season, under Gillispie’s leadership, the Tarleton State team registered a 12-20 record after achieving a notable 25 wins the previous year. Throughout his 13 seasons as a head coach, he has accumulated a coaching record of 226 wins against 182 losses and has led teams to four NCAA tournament appearances.
In Gillispie’s absence, associate head coach Glynn Cyprien has been appointed as the acting head coach. This development highlights the university’s commitment to maintaining stability within the basketball program during this transitional period. As the situation evolves, both the university and its supporters are hopeful for a resolution that will be in the best interest of the team and its future.
