Filming activities continue to thrive around the globe as the entertainment industry remains active despite challenges posed by U.S. President Donald Trump’s renewed proposal to impose a substantial 100% tariff on films produced outside the United States. The production of “Star Wars: Starfighter” is currently underway in Britain, complemented by bustling soundstages in Hungary and busy post-production houses in Australia.

Trump’s controversial tariff proposal, aimed at curbing the relocation of film jobs to international production hubs, has stirred significant debate in the industry. This idea, initially suggested in May, seeks to protect American filmmaking jobs in light of increasing overseas productions that leverage tax incentives and favorable conditions.

Though an initial outcry occurred when the tariff was first proposed, the film industry’s response has shifted toward a more adaptive stance. Figures from industry analysis firm ProdPro reveal a complex landscape: while there has been a 15% drop in overall spending compared to the previous year, Hollywood is not pulling back from international collaborations. Furthermore, Canada and other regions like Australia, Ireland, Hungary, and Spain are collectively being recognized for their substantial contributions to global filmmaking.
