Quentin Tarantino has partnered with journalist-author Jay Glennie to produce a series of books based on his films, starting with “The Making of Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood,” which is set to be released on November 11 by Insight Editions. Originally initiated with Little Brown, the agreement has expanded to encompass all ten of Tarantino’s films, including those he has yet to release.
The ambitious three-book deal was orchestrated by Shane Salerno from The Story Factory, in collaboration with Insight CEO Raoul Goff and publisher Vanessa Lopez. Following the release of the “Once Upon a Time” book, the upcoming titles will focus on “Inglourious Basterds” and “Django Unchained,” slated for 2026 and 2027 respectively. Tarantino will personally write the introductions for each book, which aim to provide more depth than mere visual compilations, akin to his novelization of “Once Upon a Time.”
The collaboration allows Glennie extensive access to the film’s cast and crew for unearthing untold narratives. For instance, Leonardo DiCaprio shared insights from his own experiences to channel his character, Rick Dalton, while Margot Robbie revealed a sentimental moment involving Sharon Tate’s sister, who gifted her a bottle of Tate’s cherished perfume.
The production of the books was inspired by a mutual appreciation between Tarantino and Glennie, with Tarantino expressing enthusiasm for the collaborative process. Glennie, in turn, emphasized the personal impact of Tarantino’s films on his own life and career.
The books will also delve into stories behind the scenes, including the process of securing rights for the “Lancer” series utilized in a pivotal scene within “Once Upon a Time,” demonstrating Tarantino’s commitment to authenticity.
Moreover, the film has served as a launchpad for rising stars like Sydney Sweeney and Mikey Madison, who expressed gratitude for the unique opportunity to work with Tarantino on a project of such cultural significance.
These forthcoming releases promise to not only celebrate Tarantino’s cinematic legacy but also connects fans with the intricacies of filmmaking and the personal journeys of actors involved in his notable works. Tarantino’s storytelling prowess continues to inspire and engage audiences, as he shares the enriching tales surrounding his celebrated films.
