With the transfer portal opening on Friday, North Carolina is actively seeking to enhance its football program. One of their early targets is Cameron Dickens, a running back from Liberty University. According to 247Sports’ transfer portal database, Dickens has scheduled visits to North Carolina on Friday and Boston College on January 4. The Tar Heels are hopeful that his visit to Chapel Hill will be compelling enough to persuade him to cancel his trip to Boston and any other potential visits.
After limited playing time at Georgia Tech, Dickens transferred to Liberty, where he quickly established himself as one of the top offensive players in the nation. In his 11 games with Liberty, he rushed for an impressive 1,339 yards, ranking fifth in the country, and scored 16 touchdowns, leading Conference USA. During the last five games of the 2025 season, he accumulated 945 yards and 12 touchdowns, achieving an average of 9.6 points per game to top the league in scoring. Furthermore, he recorded six 100-yard games, including three school-record 200-yard performances against Conference USA opponents.
This pursuit is part of a broader effort by North Carolina to revitalize its roster following a challenging 4-8 season under head coach Bill Belichick. The Tar Heels notably struggled offensively, ranking 119th nationally in scoring at 19.3 points per game and 129th in total offense with an average of 288.8 yards. Key areas for improvement include the offensive line and wide receiver positions, but bolstering the depth in the quarterback and running back rooms remains a priority as well.
In addition to Dickens, former Wisconsin quarterback Billy Edwards is also expected to visit UNC on the same day. As the transfer portal period begins, updates on potential player acquisitions will be closely followed by fans and analysts alike.
