The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has issued a forecast indicating heavy rainfall for four districts in southern Tamil Nadu, driven by a developing low-level atmospheric circulation affecting the region.
On Saturday, areas including Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Thoothukudi are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall, with isolated instances of thunder and lightning. The intensity of rain may fluctuate, particularly in certain interior and coastal regions, which could see heavier precipitation during the evening and night.
The weather bulletin warns that Sunday could bring intense rainfall specifically to the Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts, signifying that wet weather may continue for the next couple of days.
Authorities have urged residents living in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain vigilant, while local governments are preparing for potential disruptions caused by the weather.
In Chennai and its suburbs, partly cloudy skies are anticipated, along with chances of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms in the evening. While there will be intermittent sunshine during the day, the maximum temperature is expected to reach between 32°C and 33°C, while the minimum may hover between 25°C and 26°C. Winds will likely be moderate, blowing from the northeast as part of the ongoing northeast monsoon.
Fishermen have not been issued any warnings, as sea conditions are predicted to remain generally calm along the Tamil Nadu coast. Nevertheless, authorities are advising fishermen to stay alert and keep an eye on weather updates, as localized changes related to the atmospheric system may still manifest.
This weather pattern serves as a reminder of the region’s dynamic climatic conditions, and while heavy rain can pose challenges, it also brings much-needed relief in the form of replenished water resources for agriculture and daily use.
