The Greater Frenchtown-Southside Citizens’ Advisory Committee is set to hold its first meeting of 2026 on Monday, focusing on new initiatives and funding requests that aim to enhance the community. The committee has a budget of $12.4 million for the year, which includes leftover funds from previous years.

CRA Executive Director Stephen Cox highlighted that the 2026 priorities revolve around bolstering local businesses, improving public infrastructure, and promoting affordable housing. One significant proposal on the agenda includes simplifying the grant application process for property improvements. This update would allow businesses to access funding without the requirement of signing a mortgage for grants over $100,000.

Additionally, a new program proposes to offer homeowners up to $5,000 for exterior home improvements, such as painting and pressure washing, specifically targeting those living in single-family homes or duplexes. This initiative, the Residential Exterior Painting Program, will accept only the first 40 applicants starting in April.

The meeting will also address a funding request of $30,000 from Knight Creative Communities Institute and SoMo Walls, which aims to create eight large murals visible to the public at all hours, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the community.

Cox emphasized the committee’s cohesive goals, which include supporting business renovations, identifying public infrastructure projects, and ensuring affordable housing availability within the district. The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Monday at the Smith-Williams Service Center, where leadership roles will also be solidified with the election of a new chair and co-chair.

Residents can look forward to these initiatives as steps toward community improvement and enhancement in Downtown Tallahassee.
