Fiji is set to enhance its emergency response capabilities through specialized training in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) procedures conducted in Taiwan. This initiative is supported by the Taipei Trade Office, which has provided essential new equipment aimed at improving the effectiveness of first responders in the country.
At a recent handover ceremony, Joseph Chow, an official from the Taipei office, presented a variety of EMT supplies to the Fiji National Fire Authority (NFA). Chow emphasized the ongoing cooperation between Taiwan and Fiji in disaster response and emergency medical services, noting that this partnership goes beyond the provision of medical equipment and encompasses collaboration in numerous sectors.
“This event symbolizes not only the transfer of essential paramedic supplies but also the celebration of the enduring partnership between our nations,” Mr. Chow remarked, stressing the mutual commitment to strengthening emergency support.
Sowane Puamau, the chief executive officer of NFA, underscored the importance of these supplies in saving lives. “These are not just boxes; they represent lifelines and tools that empower first responders to act faster and treat more effectively,” he stated. Puamau articulated that the combination of newly acquired skills from the training and the updated EMT supplies will significantly bolster Fiji’s Paramedic Unit, ultimately enabling them to deliver enhanced emergency medical services.
