Taiwan and Fiji are taking significant steps to enhance their collaborative efforts in disaster response and emergency medical services. A recent ceremony hosted by the Taipei Trade Office in Fiji marked the presentation of new emergency medical equipment donated by Taiwan’s National Fire Agency.
Joseph Chow, Taiwan’s representative in Fiji, emphasized that this contribution is part of a larger initiative to strengthen Fiji’s emergency response capacity. He affirmed Taiwan’s ongoing commitment to support Fiji through training, technical assistance, and essential equipment, underscoring the deepening partnership between the two nations. “Taiwan is committed to being a reliable and long-term partner for Fiji,” Chow stated, expressing aspirations to expand cooperation across various sectors to foster safer and more resilient communities.
Puamau Sowane, CEO of the National Fire Authority of Fiji, expressed gratitude for Taiwan’s support, noting the substantial impact these medical supplies will have on Fiji’s ability to deliver urgent care before patients reach healthcare facilities. He thanked Taiwan’s National Fire Agency and other partners for their generosity.
This initiative builds on Sowane’s April visit to Taiwan, during which he signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the National Fire Agency, laying a foundation for ongoing collaboration. A notable achievement was the completion of intensive training by the first group of ten Fijian Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) in Taiwan, which equipped them with critical skills to enhance emergency response services in Fiji.
The partnership between Taiwan and Fiji represents a promising future as both nations work together to improve emergency preparedness and resilience against disasters, ultimately aiming to protect the health and safety of their communities.
