Tailevu Wins Landmark Land Deal Ahead of New Provincial Office

Tailevu secures six-acre site for new provincial council office

The Fijian government has recently made a pivotal decision by allocating six acres of state land in Vunivivi to the Tailevu Provincial Council for the construction of a new office building. This long-awaited approval comes after over ten years of requests from the council and marks a significant achievement for the local community. In addition, another six acres of land have been returned to the Mataqali Nalagobokola as part of ongoing land reclamation efforts.

Lands Minister Filimoni Vosarogo announced this development during a gathering of the Tailevu Provincial Council, a moment filled with joy and gratitude, especially from traditional leader Ratu Jese of the Vanua o Vunivivi. He articulated that this decision fulfills a cherished aspiration of their ancestors, highlighting its importance for the community’s historical and cultural identity.

Chair of the Tailevu Provincial Council, Semi Matalau, emphasized that the new office will not only streamline administrative functions but will also serve as a venue for future events and developments in the province. He pointed out the past challenges of securing venues for significant gatherings, underscoring the necessity of this facility as a dedicated center for community interaction.

The newly designated land is poised to enhance various local initiatives, including agricultural activities and improved market access, promising lasting benefits for the Tailevu community. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader objectives to strengthen local governance and enhance services in the region.

Moreover, the enthusiasm surrounding this governmental support is reflected in the council’s ongoing projects. Tailevu Province has seen substantial investments exceeding $35 million aimed at infrastructure development and economic stimulation. Noteworthy past projects include renovations of the Ratu Cakobau House, which serves as a crucial hub for government services, showcasing the commitment to fortifying local governance and fostering community involvement.

As these positive developments unfold, the community is filled with hope and anticipation for a bright future, as the revitalization of local leadership and improvement of facilities create a foundation for enhanced economic resilience and social advancement in Tailevu.
