Following a triumphant 2025 season, the Tailevu Rugby Union is boldly aiming for even greater success in 2026. President Joe Rodan has set an ambitious target for the upcoming year: to secure both the Skipper Cup and the Farebrother Trophy. Rodan indicated that the past season represented a crucial turning point for the union, particularly after a mid-season shift to a new executive committee, which he described as a “baptism of fire.”
With an eye towards the future, Rodan conveyed a sense of optimism, stating, “Now that the season is over, we have learned a lot. Using that experience, we will be much better prepared come 2026.” He highlighted the significance of the union’s recent achievements, noting the team’s return to the semi-finals for the first time in 14 years as a remarkable milestone. “Reaching the semi-final after 14 years shows that we are moving in the right direction,” he expressed with pride.
Rodan expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from the Tailevu community, pointing out that the backing from fans and the local vanua played a crucial role throughout the season. “We have the full support of the vanua and our supporters, and that gives us confidence as we move forward,” he remarked.
Looking ahead, Rodan outlined a vision for 2026 that focuses on enhancing the operational aspects of the union. “We have created Tailevu as a brand and we want to run it like a business,” he stated, with aspirations to operate the Tailevu Rugby Union as a professional entity, positioning it as the best-organized union in the country.
The organization recently celebrated its accomplishments with an awards night at Vunimono Hall, reinforcing a sense of camaraderie and recognition among players and staff. The excitement surrounding the Tailevu Rugby Union reflects a positive and hopeful outlook for the future, as the team sets out to achieve excellence both on and off the field.
