A new library, equipped with educational resources valued at over $8,000, was recently inaugurated at Cautata District School in Tailevu. This event coincided with the launch of the official website for the Library Services of Fiji. The opening ceremony was presided over by the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, and drew a diverse assembly of stakeholders, including education officials, community leaders, teachers, parents, and students.

This newly established library features a wide range of materials aimed at enriching the educational experience, including books, learning tools, digital devices, shelves, tables, chairs, educational charts, and toys. These resources are designed to support and enhance the academic skills of students, particularly in reading and research.

Minister Radrodro, during his address, highlighted the vital role libraries play in education, offering students increased learning opportunities. He noted that libraries cultivate curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong passion for learning by providing access to essential knowledge and information required for academic achievement.

The newly launched website for the Library Services of Fiji also made its debut during the ceremony, offering a diverse array of digital resources, including books, journals, newspapers, and online learning materials in multiple languages such as iTaukei, Hindi, Fiji Hindi, Rotuman, and English.

According to the Ministry of Education, libraries currently operate in 633 of Fiji’s 745 primary schools and 159 of its 181 secondary schools. This initiative to enhance both physical and digital library services is part of the ongoing commitment to promote reading and learning throughout Fiji, ensuring that students have access to the necessary resources for their educational development. The opening of this library signifies a crucial advancement in fostering a culture of learning in the region, which is essential for the growth and development of future generations.
