Tailevu Provincial Council Chair Semi Matalau has voiced strong support for the traditional method of fundraising known as soli, emphasizing its potential to yield significant benefits for both current and future residents of the province. Matalau announced plans for the upcoming “Adi Tailevu” fundraising event, a once-annual occasion that will align with the Provincial Council meeting scheduled for next year.
Matalau stressed that the financial contributions raised through this event are crucial for supplementing government support for the Tailevu Provincial Office, which aims to enhance various development plans. He remarked, “This will benefit the people of Tailevu, not anyone outside the province,” underscoring a commitment to local enhancement.
This initiative reflects the province’s dedication to utilizing local resources and fostering community empowerment. The recent success of Tailevu Youth Day, which raised over $32,000, serves as a testament to this commitment. The youth event aimed to revitalize engagement and tackle pressing social issues, highlighting a positive trend toward youth-led community initiatives. Council members, including Jeremaia Merekula, have noted that these efforts showcase the community’s capacity to back projects that elevate young people’s roles and promote their involvement in provincial development.
Moreover, Matalau’s emphasis on using local resources aligns with a sustainable approach that encourages self-sufficiency within the community. This reinforces the significance of council-led programs directed at nurturing leadership among youth, as well as addressing local needs. The council’s dedication to youth empowerment through various workshops and community projects further illustrates its strategic focus on improving social cohesion, preserving culture, and enhancing health and educational outcomes.
The collective efforts being made suggest a promising outlook for Tailevu’s communities as they unite to support their own development. By engaging in fundraising activities and leveraging local talent and resources, Tailevu Province is positioning itself to promote resilience and long-term growth for its residents.
