The Tagimocia Netball Club’s U15 team has made impressive strides in their off-season training by participating in a competitive two-day event against the U15 teams of the touring Wanderers Netball Club from Australia. This event took place at the USP Gym in Suva on December 8-9, where Tagimocia clashed with the Possums and Emus teams from the Australian club.

Coach Inoke Vuli expressed his enthusiasm for this opportunity, praising the commitment of the Wanderers Netball Club to nurturing grassroots talent. He emphasized that such experiences provide a beneficial foundation for the team’s pre-season training. “I can see that grassroots are taken seriously in Australia; that’s what they showcased today,” Vuli stated, underscoring the significance of these encounters for the development of young athletes.

Although the competition presented challenges, Vuli commended his players for their determination, noting this was their first considerable competition following a training break. “For my girls, it was a big challenge, but they gave it their all,” he reflected. The tournament was also enriching for local coaches; Vuli highlighted the learning opportunity as they observed practices and strategies employed by the visiting teams, which can be adjusted into their own training methods.

In a tough matchup against the Emus, the Tagimocia team demonstrated resilience but ultimately fell short, losing 32-20. However, Vuli remains optimistic that the post-match interactions with the Wanderers will encourage the Fiji netball community to invest in grassroots initiatives. He believes these pathways are crucial for helping young netters reach their potential and fostering inspiration among future athletes.

This event represents a pivotal moment for the Tagimocia Netball Club, not only enhancing the players’ experience but also strengthening connections between local and international netball communities. It highlights the importance of collaboration in developing sports at the grassroots level, setting a hopeful tone for future endeavors in netball.
