South Carolina’s women’s basketball team will be without reserve forward Adhel Tac as she continues her recovery from a nasal injury. The program confirmed her absence ahead of their matchup against Coppin State, sharing a photo on social media that showcased Tac’s positive spirit despite the setback.
Tac, who stands at 6 feet 5 inches and is in her sophomore season, has contributed to the team with an average of 3.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 11.8 minutes per game coming off the bench. Her recent performance included one point, one block, and three rebounds during the game against Texas, which took place on January 15. Notably, she played with a protective mask during that matchup, although head coach Dawn Staley did not provide details regarding her condition afterward.
In light of Tac’s absence, Staley will be relying on the remaining options available to support starters Madina Okot and Joyce Edwards in the paint. Maryam Dauda and Alicia Tournebize, a recent addition from France, will step up in Tac’s stead. Tournebize made her debut during the game against Texas but did not register any points or rebounds in her five minutes of play. Meanwhile, Dauda averages 2.9 points per game, aiming to bolster the team during this crucial stretch of the season.
The Gamecocks, currently standing strong with an 18-1 record and ranked No. 2 nationally, will look to continue their impressive run despite the challenges posed by injuries. While Tac’s recovery is a priority, her teammates are prepared to rise to the occasion and showcase their depth as they face Coppin State.
